Spinal surgery and Parkinson's - are there more risks for us?

I'd like to hear from anyone who has mild to moderate parkinson's and has had spinal surgery, a minimally invasive laminectomy. I am considering this but apparently PD patients are more at risk for failed surgeries, post-op delirium, etc. But I'm wanting to get rid of the painful sciatica caused (probably) by a cyst in my spine at L5 S1. Being in recovery for 4 to 8 weeks will set me back in terms of exercise, not good for PD symptoms. Not sure about going ahead with surgery.

  1. I am scheduled for neck surgery soon. I am very apprehensive about it because of PD. I am also being evaluated for PD at the same time. I understand that it takes 10 weeks to recover. I can't see myself inactive for that long.

  2. YEs it's about weighing the potential benefits, vs. the physical setbacks after surgery. Good luck, trust your instincts.
