Parkinson's and How It Has Affected My Life

I was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease in 2020. The same year that I was diagnosed with it, my mom passed away from it. I watched mom battle with Parkinson's for many years before she passed away from it. So I knew what to expect when I was diagnosed with it. There are 4 stages of Parkinson's Disease. I found out this year that I'm in the 3rd stage of it. I try to remain positive in spite of the challenges that life brings my way. This year it has gotten harder and harder to live life; one day at a time. The struggle is real. If I forget to take a dose of my meds It effects my whole day. This year I've joined Michael Fox's fight for Parkinson's. I've begun to actively ask my senators and legislators to pass laws for finding a cure for Parkinson's. It's not much but it makes me feel good to be helping all of us who are survivors with Parkinson's. Thanks for letting me share. Being advocate for Parkinson's has helped me deal with it and the challenges that come with it.

  1. Thank you so much for sharing your story. It takes a lot of strength to talk about what you’ve been through — losing your mom to Parkinson’s and then facing your own diagnosis can’t be easy. The way you’re choosing to stay positive, take things one day at a time, and even advocate for change through Michael J. Fox’s foundation and legislative efforts is really inspiring. You’re absolutely right — missing a single dose of meds can throw the whole day off, and that’s something many in the Parkinson’s community relate to deeply.

Recently in Thane, there’s been a push to support people living with Parkinson’s in new ways. Dr. Naren Nayak launched a Specialized Parkinson’s and Movement Disorder Surgery Program, which focuses on giving patients more options for managing the toughest symptoms. Stories like yours remind us why initiatives like these matter so much — because behind every medical term, there’s a person fighting, adapting, and advocating just like you
