Husband with Parkinson's

Hello, my husband has had Parkinson's for 15 years. Is anyone out there in the same boat as me? He is very reserved and quiet, and does not allow me to attend his appointments with him, saying it is not my business. We have been together for 39 years tomorrow. I find it very upsetting that he won't allow me to go with him.

  1. I have had PD for 16 years and have been married 44 years. I cannot really address your problem. I am more dependent on my wife to care for me i.e. with scheduling and managing medicine etc. I always have her come with me for doctor's visits. Just let him know you want to support him in whatever he wants. It is understandable that you feel hurt. Just do not take it personally. PD varies for each person. Maybe he will eventually want you to be present at doctor's visits. Be patient. Take care.

  2. Thankyou so much

  3. My husband had Parkinson's for almost 16 years. In the past 9 month he lost his hearing, sense of smell, taste and his voice. He also lost the ability to stand or walk. After a fall he was hospitalised for 6 weeks and then he came home for palliative care. It was only in the last two years he wanted me to be with him at appointments as I was the one person who knew what was happening to him, he couldn't see it. A few days before the appointment we made a list of what was happening to his body and then if he went alone to his appointment he handed out list over and this helped.
Sadly my husband passed away at home on the 23rd March.
His death certificates dated the cause of death was advanced Parkinson's disease.

    1. I am so sorry for your loss. Sending you light, strength and hugs. Jill (Team Member)
