Deep stretching, deep tissue massage, or Myofascial release therapy

Exercise is well documented as being helpful for persons with Parkinson’s (and, of course, for just about everyone). I recently had a deep stretching session and wonder if others have tried deep stretching (assisted stretching), deep tissue massage or Myofascial release therapy.

  1. Lorraine,
I get deep tissue massages twice a month. They are great. I have been doing it for 3 months plus I exercise at least an hour each day. It seems to work well for me. I take C/L (2 tablets) 3 times per day. My simptoms are holding steady, that is not getting much worse. Massage has been a great addition for me. I pray constantly. Blessings, Mike

    1. , thank you for this feedback! Are your massages private pay or can you use insurance?

    2. Hi Mike, I am glad that deep tissue massage is working for you. Keep praying and being so positive. Merry Christmas! Marc M., Moderator, parkinsonsdisease.net

  2. My mother who has major back issues recently had a deep tissue massage in her p.t. and she said it was amazing! My dad (with PD) who will be 87 this week, does his daily exercises and still walks a few blocks in good weather! Keep up the awesome work Lorraine and Mike! Praying constantly here too! Blessings on your days! Suzanne T.

    1. , thank you for sharing this information. I am glad to hear that deep tissue massage helps your mom. Best wishes, Lorraine, fellow parkinsonsdisease.net moderator

  3. Hi Lorraine,
My massages are private pay. My sense is people who give massages do not want to jump through the hoops required by insurance. They are a little pricey which is why I go every ‘two’ weeks. Blessings, Mike
