speech problems in Parkinson's

Hello, I am a caregiver for my sister who has parkinson's. Lately, I have noticed that she repeats the last word I say a lot. Before she had Parkinson's, she used to repeat phrases, but not as often and not just one word. Should I tell her she's doing this? Would that be hurtful?
I notice she doesn't do if with friends on the phone, or with her Doctor. We do our appointments on the phone because of covid and because she also has a spinal disc issue that makes it hard for her to travel. Not sure what to do, any suggetions? Thanks

  1. Hello, it’s difficult to say when Parkinson’s can be different for each person. It could be your sister is having a hard time processing language which is common. It would be best if you consulted with her doctor. They may be able to advise you on how to effectively communicate with her and help you understand. 1. Thank you for your question about speech problems in Parkinson's, L55one2. . l am a Speech Pathologist with PD. In my opinion, since her symptoms can be related to a myriad of conditions in addition to PD, I would recommend seeing a Speech Pathologist for an evaluation and recommendations. Possibilities include hearing ability, cognition, and language processing. I agree with Suzanne Troy that it would be beneficial to make an appointment with your specialist.
