How do you deal with memory loss?

How do you deal with memory loss??? He still works and makes major decisions, but sometimes he forgets he has said them and it really hurts.

  1. Thanks for posting your question, . I'm so sorry to hear about the memory loss he (your husband?) is experiencing. I'm sure it's really hard for both of you to go through. Some have found that keeping the brain "active" with crosswords, puzzles, etc., have helped promote a healthy brain. There are also medication options, however, since we are unable to provide any medical advice, we recommend speaking with his doctor to determine what treatment options are available. I hope this helps! - Chris, ParkinsonsDisease.net Team Member

    1. Thanks Chris,
Kevin is on about 40 pills a day some which are Vitimans. We looked into the Brain Surgery and because of his fall in '09 and the loss of memory already not a candidate. Just hoping to find someone that understands this lose and how I can deal with the outcomes when what he says or promise that affects our everyday life. He's still is running a business and it affects this also....makes for a lot of hurt feelings and most don't understand.

  2. I really don’t. I’m trying but when I forgot my granddaughter’s name last week. It broke my heart. I’m forgetting more and more.
I have been diagnosed with PD and other tremors. I guess I need to write all of my grandchildren’s name down

    1. It must be hard for you, wandagodbold. Being a Speech Pathologist wih PD, I have created memory books for my patients with pictures and names. I include a picture of a spouse, my address, my children, grandchildren, phone number, friends, favorite foods, places, etc. The PWP can just recall where the memory book is located (it doesn't have to be big) and recall what is forgotten. With some people who use walkers, wheelchairs, etc., The memory book can be on 4/6" index cards, attached by circular rings purchased. Please keep in touch and let me know how you are doing. 2. I’m so sorry you have PD. I know what you mean I had to write them down as they were born with their birthday and of course I forget! I took speech therapy it was hard but it helped. I will probably take physical therapy once my gait is effected. I take13 different medications and I get depressed about it cause I can’t drive now and I’m only 64. What a bummer! I have lots of friends but their life is so busy they don’t call or text. I have to initiate the contact. Sorry for the pity party. This is the first time I’ve posted on The PD site so thanks for reading my post!

  3. Thanks for your comment about memory, IIsites. As a Speech Pathologist SLP] with PD, if you have not already done so, I would suggest making an appointment with an SLP to assess your memory and give you recommendations to compensate for this issue. Please let me know how you are doing? I care. Marc M., Moderator, SLP, ParkinsonsDisease.Net
