Suicidal Ideation: Talking About It Can Help

Content Note: This article describes experiences with suicidal ideation. If you or a loved one are struggling, consider reading our mental health resources page: https://parkinsonsdisease.net/mental-health/general-resources

I would like to start a discussion on this topic because I recently experienced a suicidal ideation about a month ago. It was right before my daughter’s wedding. I was depressed and felt like I had become a burden to my family.. I told my sister and best friend how I was feeling a few days ago and my sister told my husband, she even sent him the text I sent her.
I’m in the process of seeing a psychiatrist ..I’m going to see this through with my support of my very loving husband, who told me he is here for better or worse.
Mental illness is a very serious but treatable condition.

  1. Thank you for sharing a very difficult topic and getting a discussion underway.I am glad you are receiving professional help and have the support of your husband. Parkinson’s can lead to serious depression and you are very wise in recognizing the severity of your mental state and addressing it. I wish you all the very best and please keep us posted on your progress. Thea DeStephano Community Team Member
