Panic Type Attacks

I was diagnosed with Parkinson's 18 months ago. The first unpleasant side effects that I suffered with was persistent nausea which made me feel really ill. For the last 6 months I suffer with debilitating panic attack type symptoms. I know when they are coming which is sometimes on and off all day. I can no longer arrange events to go to because the attacks make it impossible. My ears ring, my stomach, chest and throat tighten and I feel I can't breathe. It's frightening and I sometimes feel like I am going to die. I have called an ambulance on occasion but they just tell me to practice breathing techniques. My stomach and abdomen blow up and harden. These attacks can last for hours. I have never heard of anyone else suffering with this. Even the Parkinson's nurse said she has never heard of it. This makes me feel lonely and isolated. Does anyone else suffer these horrible attacks?

  1. I am so sorry to hear you are battling such attacks. I can imagine how scary this is for you. Have you had an opportunity to seek out a second opinion? Or speak in more detail with your physician about what you are experiencing? Have you started a new medication that could be a possible contributing factor? Hopefully anyone with any similar experience will chime in soon. In the meantime, I shared an article written by another community member about her experience with panic attacks and some other challenges -https://parkinsonsdisease.net/living/mental-health-challenges. Please know we're here for you- you are not alone. -Jessica (Team Member)
