Does ET become Parkinson s

Diagnosed with Essential Tremor in 1988. Grandfather, cousins and siblings also have ET. Rechecked in 2018, ET confirmed. Now told it might be Parkinson. Is this commom?

  1. I'm not a medical professional, but as a PD patient, I share your situation. I, my brother, and my late Father had ET throughout our Teen and Young Adult lives. My Father was diagnosed with PD at age 75, and my PD diagnosis came at age 44. My brother, now 70, is re-visiting his ET diagnosis because his physician thinks he may have PD. So I guess our little TWO-person case study points to the possibility that ET may morph into Parkinson's, although I've yet to find confirmation of that from the medical community.

    1. Appreciate your reply! Thank you it helps!

      1. Hi ,
While I can't directly answer your question, I did think this article may be helpful information: https://parkinsonsdisease.net/answers/differences-essential-tremor. If you also read the comments on that article, it may provide some insight as well from other community members' experiences; keeping in mind that different people can be affected differently even with the same diagnosis.
        Hope you are well today!
