Dementia and Parkinsons

Hi everyone. We have a feeling my father is having issues balancing dementia medicine (Rivastigmine patch) and Parkinson's medicine (rytary). Does anyone else have issues with this? We think the rytary makes the dementia worse, which then makes him freeze more and not function physically. So basically that the rytary cancels out whatever effect it has.

My father is at his best at night. Extremely alert and able to walk the best. Which is strange. But my thought is that, since we put the rivastigmine patch on in the morning, it has completely been absorbed into the skin by night time so it can compete with the rytary? I don't know. This seems far-fetched, but I can't think of any other possibilities. Thank you.

  1. I would advise you to contact your father’s neurologist and hopefully see a movement disorder specialist who is trained in Parkinsons if you have not already done so We cannot give medical advice as we are not physicians. It may be helpful to keep a log detailing when your father’s symptoms seem to change to share with his doctor. Wishing you the best of luck in finding an answer. Please let us know how he is doing. This community cares.

    1. Thank you. I don’t want medical advice. I just want to hear if anyone had a similar experience. We have two different Parkinson’s doctors.

      1. I apologize if I misunderstood your question. Hopefully you will get a response from someone who shares the same symptoms. Thea
