Back muscles in constant spasm

Hi, i’m new to the forum. I’m just trying to explore the symptoms i’m having and find an explanation for them.

For a while now my partner has joking called me Buzz Lightyear because of my rigid upper body, and I laugh it off, but it is becoming more serious to me.

I have lower backpain, but this I don’t think it’s related. My main symptom is that my back and trunk are rock solid and bending in any way, to the side, back or forward results in stabbing muscle pains.

I have great difficulty folding myself into a car - I normally get my head wedged or bash it on the top of the door opening as I can’t bend my body to fit the gap.

I walk rigidly, and seem ok, but if I catch an arm on something, or if someone touches me, it’s like having a massive electric shock goes through my torso. Lying down, after spending a lot of time standing up, is agony.

I’ve recently experienced a couple of episodes of swallowing difficulty, and every time I eat I get serious mucus in my throat, resulting in me having to clear my throat a lot during eating or shortly after food.

I’m also very easily fatigued, even though I try to walk a lot. Any upper body activity for prolonged periods usually ends in back spasms and being reduced to an immovable ‘board’ for a couple of hours.

Anyone else get any of these? I’m 61 and this has been getting progressively worse for 5-6 years now.

Regards,

Dave
