Parkinsonism
I was diagnosed with Parkinsonism a year and a half ago. I had to wait 9 months to see a neurologist and by that time I could not walk without a walker, dress or undress myself, bathe myself, get up out of a chair without help, or eat my food without help.
Help from medication
I also could no longer write or type or do the knitting I used to love doing. I have never been so grateful for anything in my life when my doctor prescribed Levocarb. All of a sudden I could do almost everything I used to do. I still have trouble with my feet moving all the time and a few other things, but basically, I am trying to stay positive. I walk on the treadmill for 40 to 45 minutes every day in winter. Go for walks in the summer with some help from a friend. I can knit again and I exercise every evening before bed.
I have a good diet of mostly organic food. I plan to grow a big veggie garden this spring like I used to do. I am looking forward so much to gardening again. I also feel very fortunate that I didn't get this awful disease until I was 81 years old. I'll be 83 this fall and hope to find myself gathering veggies from the garden and canning and freezing. I do as much reading as I can about Parkinsonism and will do anything I can to stop this disease from progressing.
