Managing PD at 60

I began having tremors in the left hand in Nov 2020. Due to Covid, I preferred an online consultation with the neurologist. Based on his assessment on video, I was started on a Beta blocker with advice that I should come for physical consultation as soon as possible.

Diagnosed with PD

Post retirement in 2021, we moved to another city where I was referred to a local neurologist who said it is an essential tremor and continued my Beta blocker. During the year I started having bouts of frequent urination for which I consulted my urologist. Based on tests and scan, he told me the increased urination could be due to PD and asked me to take a second consultation. Sure enough it was diagnosed as PD.

Coping with medication side effects

I am currently on Levo/Carbidopa, Selgeline, and Trihexyphenidyl coping with side effects of all the 3 medications. But am able to have longer "on" periods and sleep better. I am supplementing through exercises like cycling, walking and some weight training.

The bottom line here is your doctor has to find a optimum combination of medications, keeping efficacy and side effects in mind. On a psychological plane, one has to remain positive and be open about having this condition in social gatherings where people do notice and some times stare at the tremors in your hand.
