I fear for my future

I’m going to turn 70 later this year and my retirement is not going as I planned.

After a life of independence and good health, I now can’t walk and have a hard time talking and eating. I made my living as either a sales professional or a singer in a band, and now I can’t do either!

It’s hard to adjust to a more sedentary life. This depresses me more than anything.

I also have become much more sedentary and can only be mobile with a rollater or wheelchair which is frustrating. Have you gone for any speech therapy? It may help with your ability to sing. The Parkinson’s Foundation also has classes on line . There’s also a group called Tremble Cleffs accessible on YouTube that is for PD and gives lessons and even holds concerts. Sometimes finding a new activity you enjoy may also make your days more tolerable. Thea DeStephano Community Team Member

I too am a musician,and it is depressing how my fingers don't work well and my playing days are limited,however just my thought,the past is gone..and the future is scary no matter what these days,so for myself,Istay as much as possible in the present..yoga,,tai chi,,boxing,,Indica kush, ,,it all helps to keep you in the here and now...I have had a lot of years of this,and really staying in the present helps

I don't know if you are religious or not, but I read daily from an inspirational book that calms me. The basic message is to daily walk with Jesus. Trust Him and give all your fear, anxiety, sorrow, anger, frustration, disappointment to Him. Practicing imagery when doing this is hugely beneficial. If this doesn't appeal to you, you might try mediation......the more you practice, the better you will get. Best wishes to you. I hope you will get some comfort knowing that you are in my prayers.
