Diagnosis and meds
I have always been right side dominant...right handed, my bedside and kitchen set up with pens, books, can openers, flashlights and other necessary tools kept where I can see and reach them. The first symptom of Parkinson's was tremors of my left hand. My PCP referred me to the same neurologist that had taken over my POTS treatment several months before. Sinemet was added to my list of meds, the tremors disappeared, my PCP & I thought the disease was under control. I had read about restless legs syndrome, then one night I experienced it. Wrapped my legs in two hospital blankets and a king size quilt. The next morning I spoke to my PCP's nurse (have known the both of them for over 20 years). She advised me to call the neurologist, said a med called Gapapentin would be prescribed, call back if didn't have script by end of day.
New medication
I called the neurologist, she prescribed a low dose of Gaba to take in the evening. By the end of two weeks my prescription read "take one half to one tablet 3 times daily, of 600 mg tablets. Our "off label" agreement was one half to a full tablet if the trip involved walking any distance like a parking lot, or a parking garage.
The combination of POTS, Parkinson's and fibromyalgia can make a simple trip to the bathroom, or from a seat in the lobby to a front seat in a car a major expedition.
A small 5×3 Mead notebook is kept close by me, for symptom notes, phone calls, housekeeping, food & pharmacy notes, Amazon, Walmart, Katz, what pain, sedative and allergy pills I've taken, my temp, if taken. What TV show or movie I've binged, same with Kindle.
I pay parking and tips, since the bldg is privately owned and managed. Medical can be deducted from income for next year's rent. Those receipts are filed away. Dottie and I are having a "filing session" tomorrow, for bills, bank statements, grocery receipts for vitamins and the like. Parkinson's is starting to affect my brain. 70 years of diet, diabetes, meds, & lack of exercise.
