Tremors on hand and taking syndopa

Hi Everyone,

My Mother (in her 60s) started getting tremors on her right hand around 8 months ago on and off and during the last month it has increased. The neurologist asked her to take Syndopa twice a day. She started it a day ago but its not having any effect, the tremors are still there. This is worrying her a lot and she is anxious about it. I have a few concerns around this and was wondering if anyone could help me out

--Does the fact that taking syndopa (twice a day) have no effect mean anything? should she try something else ?

--Is there any way to say this is parkinsons or not for sure ?

I would greatly appreciate any advice/information given

  1. Hi, tmpdev101 - Thanks for your post! I can definitely understand your and your mother's concern. Did your mother's neurologist give you any guidance on timeframes for seeing if the medication is helping? If not, we'd encourage her to check-in and discuss this.

There's unfortunately no quick and easy test to determine whether or not one has Parkinson's. Typically, diagnoses come from neurologists called movement disorder specialists, who administer a series of tests as discussed in this article: https://parkinsonsdisease.net/diagnosis/. Hope this information helps. - Chris, ParkinsonsDisease.net Team

    1. My experience was similar in that it took several days to begin seeing any tremor reduction once I began a particular medicine. The first medicine had little effect so a second med was introduced. I don't know if your mother's tremors are at rest, when doing something, or all the time. I hope you have had a chance to reach out to her physician with your concerns. ~Lorraine, parkinsonsdisease.net moderator
