How can I support loved one who lives far away?

Hi, my Mum is 70 and has had PD for about 5 years, I live 1000 km away and I am trying to support her, any advice? Thanks

  1. Thanks for your question, . This is definitely a challenging scenario, and one that many people experience. We actually have a great article with some helpful tips on how to provide care from afar here: https://parkinsonsdisease.net/caregiver/hints-long-distance-caregiving/. I hope this helps provide some answers for you. Take care. - Chris, ParkinsonsDisease.net Team

    1. The tips Chris sent you are very helpful and hopefully you will be able to apply some of them. Years ago when my sister in law was very ill I found that communication on a regular basis was key. Since this was pre cell phones much less FaceTime or Zoom we set up a schedule that worked with her appointments and rest times. I also sent her funny books cards and DVDS to lift her spirits. Staying in close contact with my brother allowed me to keep abreast of her treatments so I felt more a part of her most difficult time. You are special in wanting to be of support despite the miles. Please let us know if there’s anything we can assist you with in the future. Thea DeStephano Community Team Member
