speech problem

I find it difficult to hold a conversation. My speech is labored -- it takes a lot of effort to pronounce the words. Sometimes the word will not come out. The words are slurred. This is so different for me as I was a university professor. I gave many speeches and was know for my speaking ability. People tell me that they understand me, but I know they have to work hard to understand me. Speech therapy helped my volume, but not my clarity and my ability to "say" the words. I do not want a "pity party"--I just want to be respected for having ideas.

  1. I have found the Parkinson’s Voice Project to be very helpful in maintaining my Voice Quality. I practice every day and there seems to be some benefit. Blessings, Mike

    1. Mike, I looked up the Parkinson's Voice Project and it looks somewhat helpful, I'll explore it more. Thank you! Psupy

      1. As a speech pathologist with PD, I concur with Mike. Psupy, Parkinson's Voice Project is an excellent program. Warmly, Marc M., Moderator, parkinsonsdisease.net

    2. I am about to begin the Lee Silverman Voice Therapy LSVT as I tend to run out of steam at the end of day when we tend to socialize or spend the most time together. My husband is very hard of hearing and we hold to develop better lines of communication.I have heard great things about this program and want to learn as much as I can before it becomes a problem. My voice isn’t soft but does get hoarse. I posted an article Speak Up! I Can’t Hear You! If you would like to know more about how I learned it wasn’t just my husband’s hearing that was affecting our communication. Thea DeStephano Community Team Member

      1. , thank you.

    3. As a speech pathologist [SLP] with PD, I would recommend that you make an. appointment with a SLP who treats PD voice and intelligibility. Best, Marc M., Moderator, parkinsonsdisease.net
