Shoe recommendation

I’m newly diagnosed with PD and walk daily for up to five miles.
My issue is frequent trips and falls. I read that it’s not advisable to wear rubber soled shoes. I’m looking for recommendations for leather soled or non rubber soled shoes for daily walking.

  1. Hello, I'm sorry to hear that you are having frequent falls. That's great to hear that you are walking so much! That's one of the best ways to exercise your body and brain! My father (aged 87) has had luck with the Kizik brand of shoes - they are easy to slip on and he doesn't seem to have issues with falling.
Here are some articles that you also might find useful regarding shoes (and you might consider walking sticks to help you with balance):

    1. Thank you! I have recently learned of Kizik’s and bought three pair. My Neurologist suggested Ifind leather soles as they won’t stick to the floors in airports etc.. I was able to find a pair of shoes that are actually just week constructed slippers with felttops and leather soles that will work quite well for travel. Walking sticks are on the list for tomorrow’s shopping 😎

      1. so glad to hear you have found some shoes that are helpful! Hope your shopping trip today for a walking stick is successful! As Suzanne mentioned, please reach out if we can help locate any other info. We're here for you. Kindly, Jessica, ParkinsonsDisease.net Team Member

      2. I'm so glad that you find Kiziks work for you and slipper styles for travel! Have a great day! Suzanne

    2. I also used to fall frequently until I bought the Kizik shoes. They are very easy to put on and off. I fall less frequently when wearing them. Best, Marc M., Moderator, parkinsonsdisease.net
