Pet Dog

I was encouraged to give her up. She is two. I was managing and I feel so very lonely with out her.

  1. oh my heart hurts for you. I am so sorry to hear you had to do this. I can imagine how heartbreaking this must have been for you. Is there anyway to visit with her from time to time? Sending you the BIGGEST comforting hugs. -Jessica (Team Member)

    1. I'm so sorry to hear that. Who would encourage you to do that? I am 5 years diagnosed and I couldn't manage without my dog.
Shortly after being diagnosed, my labrador died at the age of 13 and I experienced life with PD without my dog. The awake night times were awful and lonely. Exercising, out walking/cycling seemed pointless even though I knew how beneficial it was for me. My dog was a constant companion and motivation to get up and battle this disease. After 18 months without my dog, I was lucky enough to get another labrador. So, I can say with first-hand experience how hugely beneficial on so many levels having a dog is, especially for us living with PD.
I now consider a dog as essential to my mental & physical well-being & truly believe this to be as important as the meds.

Have you thought about contacting your local RSPCA to see if they need external carers? My daughter used to work for them and they often had older dogs that needed a loving home, temporary and permanent. I also believe they help with some costs.

      I feel for you,

      Dave
