How to increase Carbidopa dose safely

Hi, just discovered my husband wasn’t taking the required dose of Carbidopa. He recently had back surgery and everything was going great until a few days ago when suddenly he started shuffling his legs and wasn’t thinking clearly. Now we want to know how we can back to normal: can we increase his 12 per day dose to maybe 15? Just want to go back to where he was a few days ago.

  1. Talk to the doctor or pharmacist. I think you cannot compensate for incomplete doses, because my feeling is this medication works for several hours only, it doesn't accumulate in the body for long. And I don't think you should ever use more than the last prescribed dose.

    1. , I totally agree with you that you should never use more than the last prescribed dosage of ANY medication without the consent of the prescribing doctor. More does not necessarily mean better! Best, Marc M., Moderator, parkinsonsdisease.net

  2. I agree with Jerry Smiles. I wouldn’t make the decision to adjust dosages without consulting my neurologist. It can be possible to overdose which can lead to dangerous consequences. Please let us know how you do. This community cares. Thea DeStephano

    1. : thanks for your input. I did finally get a call back from his pd doctors office. They said just give him his daily dose and if no improvement by Monday call and they’ll do a complete work up on him. Thanks again 😊

      1. , Thank you 23moey, for your question. If you. If you haven't done so already, don't hesitate to contact the physician that prescribed the medication and dosage level for a re-evaluation of your husband's current condition. Modifying the dosage of Carbidopa on your own is dangerous and may interfere with other medications that he is taking. Best, Marc M., Moderator, parkinsonsdisease.net
