Hello and question about sense of smell

Hi, I was diagnosed with PD back in May. I have always had a super crazy sense of smell. Seems instead of losing my sense of smell it has only gotten stronger. Now to the point that I seem to be smelling things that are not there. Sometimes I smell pleasant things like roses, but more often than not, I will smell urine, marijuana (nope no one is smoking it) decomposition type smell, poo etc... it will be briefly and then it will go away. Comes and goes. I also seem to smell myself more and it is is different. Musky and not like I used to smell. Has anyone ever experienced this? Is this typical.
Thank you!

  1. Hi Parkinson's can impact one's sense of smell. Have you brought this up with your doctor? We always recommend reaching out to one's physician about new or developing symptoms. In the meantime, I included an article that may be of interest - https://parkinsonsdisease.net/symptoms/sense-of-smell-hyposmia. Wishing you well. Kindly, Jessica, Team Member

    1. Thank you!

  2. My problem is actually the opposite and I did actually read an article that 18% of PD patients can have the opposite of Hyposomia. I will be seeing my neurologist next week so will mention it to him. I was curious if anyone else had experienced this. I appreciate your response. Thank you so much 😊

    1. Hi just wanted to check in and see how the appointment went with your neurologist? I hope it was helpful and gave you some better insight to the symptoms you are experiencing. Wishing you a lovely weekend. -Jessica, Team Member
