Camptocormy

I would like to start a discussion about this topic which I have been diagnosticated after 8 years of being treated as PD. My health have being deteriorated. Is there any recommended specific treatment for this "variant" of PD? Or, any specialised clinic ? Thank you.

  1. Hi @monterei, Thank you for bringing this up because in spite of the problem being fairly pervasive yours is the only post that mentions it. For those who are unaware of the condition, "Camptocormia is defined as an abnormal, severe, and involuntary forward flexion of the thoracolumbar spine, which becomes manifest during standing and walking and subsides in the recumbent position." (https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/17131221/#:~:text=Camptocormia%20is%20defined%20as%20an,subsides%20in%20the%20recumbent%20position.) I think the problem is typically written off as "poor posture" and overlooked. I'm definitely interested to see if others are going to chime in with responses to your post. As a person with Parkinson's disease and someone actively fighting postural problems that only seem to be worsening, I intend to research camptocormia and get back to you. In the articles, I've read so far, treatment options vary widely. The most common is physical therapy, but certain medications appear to be useful, and even Botox injections are included. Because each person experiences Parkinson's disease in a unique way and responses to treatment and therapy vary each person should seek the advice of a doctor familiar with their circumstances. Neurologists specializing in movement disorders seem particularly effective. If you feel comfortable sharing your knowledge with the community it would be very useful and enlightening.
