back spasms

Does anyone else experience back spasms? Mine arrive without warning and leave the same way. They have called it a trigger point (mine are mid back and run along the spine). However, no one seems to know how to stop them before they start, or stop them from continuing to spasm. In fact, the Dr's. tell me to just take pain killers and muscle relaxers, and let it run its course. The spasms are excruciating and get worse every year. I'm out of ideas and very tired.

  1. sorry to hear you are experiencing back spasms and not having much luck finding some relief. Hopefully, if others have had similar experiences, they will share what they have found helpful. Wishing you some relief. Kindly, Jessica, Parkinsonsdisease.net Team Member

    1. I just recently began to have similar symptoms. A heating pad with vibration sometimes helps but not for long. I also use voltaren gel which works for a few hours. I am seeing a spinal orthopedist Friday and will keep you informed if they have any solutions. I hope that I can be of help. Best, Thea DeStephano Community Team Member

      1. Several things have helped me over the years. 1. Prozac stops chronic signals along the synapses, aiding in pain relief. 2. Back and Body, with Tylenol, aspirin, and (drum roll) caffeine, my go to drug. 3. A really good vibrator that I lay on when nothing else helps. 4. Either heating pads, or icing (like frozen vegetables). It is important to stay limber through stretching exercises!

        1. I experience back spasms as well. My Parkinson Nurse visits me once every 3 mos. At our last visit I mentioned my spasms to her and she advised taking Ibuprofen and added muscle relaxers aren't all that helpful. Instead, she recommended applying Voltaren or Tiger balm on the spasmodic areas. Have you tried these applications?
