Karen Kelly

I was just diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in July 2018. My job forced me to choose between being laidoff, fired or go out on disability. So I went out on disability. I was falling all the time for no reason. My handwriting got worse over the years. I was at my job for almost 22 years. I work for a Direct Marketing Mailhouse. My job is affected drastically.

Hi Karen! Thanks for your comments. I like it when I hear other people’s stories. It reassures me that I am not alone. My employer was accommodating of my PD until it got to the point that there was nothing they could do and we sat down and discussed it. When to say when is a tough decision. I encourage you to stay busy with a hobby or in my case, advocacy for those living with PD. Keep fighting!

Thank you for your comments. My noss made me find out what was wrong with me. He could not have me there falling all the time. Which I can understand but know that I know not sure what to do. I know that I can never do the job I did before. I typed and fed lasers for printing.

One of our writers, @michael-church wrote a great article about the working with PD here: https://parkinsonsdisease.net/living/continue-working/. I hope this is helpful. Thanks again for sharing with us! – Chris, ParkinsonsDisease.net Team
