"I’m a former Marine, with TBI from 1991. I have a VP Shunt with tremors, bilateral paplidemia, sleep disorders; including hallucinations. Recently diagnosed with seizures, and I have noticed a lot of the non motor or physical symptoms. My hands shack up and down, not rocking. My neurologist asked me to take a few steps down the hall, and because I didn’t shuffle my feet or draw small circles; it was waved off as not PD. However, I am very concerned because my father had PD, which I was informed was not hereditary. While researching, there seems to be a contradiction to this claim. If you were to read the non movement symptoms, I’m about 100% included on the list. What would you recommend? I appreciate what I have read on your website. Thanks"

  1. Hi @Butch, thank you for your service and for sharing your frustration. I'm sorry for the experience you're having with your Neurologist. Others in the community may reply with their personal experience. You might want to get a second opinion or share your concerns and frustration with your doctor. Many people find a second opinion helpful when not receiving the care they deserve. If you're unable to get a second opinion perhaps your Neurologist will be open to discussing your concerns. This article from COPD.net, “Tips for Improving Communication with Your Physician” has been around for a while yet, endures because it is solid guidance for any medical condition:
