Exploring Hemp Oil

While I was home for Christmas, I struggled to sleep. I was exhausted, yet my brain refused to shut down, leaving me anxious and concerned for my ability to function in society. Eventually, I started taking 1,000 mg of hemp oil, and I began shedding my anxiety like snakeskin. After the oil trickled down my throat, it wasn’t long before my brain melted into unconsciousness.

Calming effects

My discovery of hemp oil caused me to prod my Dad with curiosity. He was diagnosed with Parkinson's in 2013, and he often struggles to sleep. But recently, his struggle has actually revolved around anxiety. It doesn’t take much to push him into a spiral, causing his Parkinson's symptoms to worsen.

After I told him about my success with hemp oil, my Dad quickly agreed to experiment with the same oil with which I’d found success. It wasn’t his first introduction to hemp, but the next day he pleasantly reported that it calmed him down when we woke the next day.

Differences between CBD and Hemp Oil

Hemp and Cannabis both come from the same plant species. CBD is made from the plant’s stalks, flowers, and leaves, which leads to it having a higher concentration of THC. Hempseed oil is derived from the plant’s seeds.1,2

Hemp and hempseed oil is commonly used in tons of different household products. You can find it in beauty products, clothing, paper, and even insulation.3

Hemp and hempseed oil may have benefits that range from antioxidant effects, constipation relief, immune system boosting, or even boosting cardiovascular health. Hemp is bred to reduce the levels of THC, yielding a plant that has many of the benefits without the “high.”4

My Dad’s experience

It’s always important to check your local regulations and to consult with a medical professional before introducing hemp or CBD oil into your lifestyle. As long as it doesn’t contain more than 0.3 percent of THC, CBD and hemp are federally legal in the United States.5

My Dad has already explored CBD extensively. We knew from the start that he didn’t want to get “high,” but he liked the idea of exploring natural remedies to some of his Parkinson's symptoms. It wasn’t until I started taking hemp seed oil that we seemed to have found something that would help him too.

When I say that it “helps him,” I don’t mean to say that he’s gone through a revolutionary change to the way that he experiences Parkinson's Disease. But, knowing that he commonly struggles with anxiety and panic attacks, I believe he’s finding a way to manage some of the symptoms.

It can be really overwhelming to navigate all of the different CBD and hemp products on the market. And shooting blind doesn’t exactly make it easy to feel comfortable about what you’re investing in. But finding products with third-party analysis helped me to find a bit of relief.
